Comments:
Source (Trost) is this study. July 9 and August 4, no chicks seen. Cavitt doubled the 15 nests to estimate # breeding birds and doesn't include the actual bird count (19). I used this actual bird count from Trost. The August 4, 1993 survey is also included in G. Ivey's ID Waterbird Atlas spreadsheet for his work with Region 1 - Non Game. In Ivey's spreadsheet, the median number for range of nests is reported as 18 and estimated # of breeding birds at 36 (conversion factor of nests by 2).

Comments:
Source (Trost) is this study. The survey dates with Clark's observed (June 12, June 14, July 9) where they're proportioned (10%, 35%, 2% respectively) out of the total grebes. Only the June 14 #s add up with the Western's table. The rest don't add up to what's in the Western's table so I used the count # for Clark's in its own entry. Cavitt has the # breeding birds as the actual count. The June 14, 1993 survey is also included in G. Ivey's ID Waterbird Atlas spreadsheet for his work with Region 1 - Non Game. In Ivey's spreadsheet, the median number for range of nests is reported as 1 (should be 3 according to Trost) and estimated # of breeding birds at 6 (conversion factor of nests by 2).

Comments:
This entry to capture Colleen Moulton's (IDFG) comments on which breeding lakes might still be active. "Here’s a list of those that I know have had breeding birds in recent years: American Falls Reservoir, Blackfoot Reservoir, Cave Lake, CJ Strike Reservoir, Island Park Reservoir, Lake Pend Oreille, Market Lake WMA, Mud Lake WMA. These are all fairly small colonies (although Mud Lake used to be sizeable). There may be others, but I’m less familiar with/have less documentation of them."
