This entry is not representative of the whole lake but rather, this one data source as many of the surveys were conducted in portions of the lake so the actual total count number may be higher. Lake Winnipegosis is west of Lake Winnipeg and north of Lake Manitoba. It is the third largest lake in Manitoba by surface area. It has North America's only known inland saline shoreline. From Table A.4, estimated number of breeding Western grebes during nesting period based on mazimum observed count from 1970 to 1990 (sourced from Wilson, A. and Smith, P.A. 2013). Distribution and population status of Western Grebes in Canada. Unpublished report for the Canadian Wildlife Service). No break out of data per year or other details. 100 grebe carcasses in a week recovered from fishers in the 1970s though no specifics provided (Nuechterlein pers. comm. in O'Donnel and Fjeldsa 1997).
