Comments:

The Minnesota Colonial Waterbird Nesting Inventory was conducted by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources from 1977 to 1980. The reports include Western grebe colony counts of each year (except 1979) but only 1977 and 1978 have individual breeding lake survey numbers. This record just states this lake as a breeding lake in 1977 with no numbers. This observation is cited from The Loon 45(4):107-108 but I cannot locate that in the archives. The 1978 report does not report this lake's Western grebe numbers for the year so 1978 status is uncertain at this lake and assuming presence. The 1980 report summarizes colony status for 5 colonies but does not name them so is entered here as a statewide entry with no breeding lakes named. Breeding lake status is indicated as evidence of breeding either as observed nests and/or chicks. If not observed, nests are assumed to be present.
